Mission

Canteens for the Children of Haiti, Inc. is a charitable not-for-profit organization. Its aim in raising funds from citizens, churches and corporations is to support its primary goal of feeding as many children in Haiti as possible. In answer to the needs of many newly orphaned children, all of whom need support, food, housing, education and love, Canteens for the Children of Haiti, Inc. was formed to serve the community and fill an ever widening void exacerbated even more so by the catastrophic earthquake. Funding priority is given to serving daily nutritious meals to the children in adherence with the organizations’ goal of eradicating childhood hunger. The long-term goal is to provide clothing, school supplies and necessities for needy Haitian children to meet the basic needs of all young people, providing the tools needed to be successful.

Although more than five years have passed since the devastating earthquake of January 2010, hunger is still a serious problem in Haiti. Wherever you turn, your eyes fall upon malnourished children. Doctors complain that the primary component of sickness in Haitian children is chronic malnutrition. Nursing mothers who themselves are not eating well, are not producing sufficient amounts of milk to feed their infants. Every morning orphaned children awake not knowing where their next meal will come from and every night they go to sleep with their stomachs empty. This is the reason, Canteens for the Children of Haiti, Inc. was formed. Funds are needed to create a wide channel of local food distribution to community based organizations in Haiti, and to provide consistent access to nutritious hot meals for needy children.
